LCTCS appoints Interim Director for NWLTC


MINDEN, LA – Rick Bateman, Jr., Lake Charles, has been appointed to serve as Interim Director of Northwest Louisiana Technical College after the retirement of Charles Strong.

“I speak for the entire Northwest family in congratulating Dr. Bateman on being selected as Interim Director of NWLTC,” said Charles Strong. “His proven leadership ability and record of accomplishments leaves absolutely no doubt that he is the person to lead our college forward. We are excited to have Dr. Bateman at the helm.”

Bateman was appointed by Joe May, president of the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS) to serve in an interim capacity from six months to a year.  “Dr. Bateman is a man of heart and integrity and will be a true asset to Northwest during this transitional period. Rick’s experience as a teacher, a manager, and an executive-level leader in the technical education sector make him ideally suited to lead Northwest at this time,” Jimmy Sawtelle, Senior Vice President for Workforce Solutions at LCTCS.

“I am delighted to have this opportunity to serve Northwest Louisiana Technical College,” said Dr. Bateman. “Mr. Strong has built an exceptionally strong foundation and I will work tirelessly to advance the vision of world class technical education that meets the needs of our region.”

Bateman, 45, has been with the LCTCS since 2009, serving as the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Student Success at SOWELA Technical Community College in Lake Charles. He has more than 20 years of progressively responsible and varied higher education experience in Belize, Texas, and Louisiana.
