MINDEN, Louisiana, September 15,2014 — The State Bond Commission granted its approval for $252 million in bonds to be used for workforce-related projects at two-year colleges throughout Louisiana. The commission approved 29 total projects, including a new Workforce Development Center to be built on the Minden Campus of Northwest Louisiana Technical College.
Northwest LTC is required to raise 12 percent of the total project cost or $306,818; once that amount is reached, the state will agree to pay the remaining amount of the total project cost which is $2,556,818. The College began the fundraising effort with an internal campaign in which 100 percent of Executive Leadership Team and the Minden Campus faculty and staff at Northwest LTC contributed to the campaign. Northwest LTC is now seeking support from the community for the Workforce Development Center.
The Workforce Development Center will support the training needs of existing business and industry while also attracting new investment and new employment opportunities to our region. The new training space will allow Northwest LTC to add an industrial technology program and provide customized pre-employment and incumbent worker training and certification.
When asked why one should support this effort, Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr., NWLTC’s Interim Director, said, “As much as 70% of the jobs that need to be filled in the next ten years will require more than a high school diploma but less than a four-year degree; this additional space will help ensure that we are meeting the training needs in our region. Scott Price, Assistant Dean for the Minden Campus, added, “We just completed our strategic planning for the next five years and our principal strategic direction is to be a catalyst for business and industry expansion. This new facility gives us a huge boost in achieving that vision.”
Individuals, groups, and businesses interested in learning more about the campaign to construct the Workforce Development Center are asked to contact Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. at 318-371-3035 or email@example.com.
