Quincy Cooper was awarded a $1000 scholarship by the Red River Street Rod Association. Mr. Cooper is a diesel powered equipment technology student at Northwest Louisiana Technical College in Shreveport. Being a diesel technician is a long term goal of Mr. Cooper’s which he was only recently able to pursue. Mr. Cooper states that he chose Northwest LTC because it was highly recommended by professionals in the field, and he realized that it would provide the pathway for better advancement in his career, high wage employment, and a sense of purpose. Mr. Cooper states that the completion of the program will give him a sense of pride knowing that he accomplished his goals.

The scholarship was awarded by the Red River Street Rod Association. Mr. Bill Ford, an affiliate of the Red River Street Road Association, was present to present the scholarship to Mr. Cooper. The Red River Street Road Association is instrumental in providing $2500 in scholarships annually to the students of Northwest LTC. Northwest LTC is grateful to the association for extending their generosity to the students it serves and for helping students to meet their educational and career goals. Northwest LTC provides high quality, relevant, career and technical education to meet the workforce needs of Northwest Louisiana.

The Red River Street Rod Association was formed in 1973 and is the oldest continually operating street rod club in Louisiana. They have been conducting Street Rod Car Shows since their inception and will hold their 42nd Annual Street Rod Reunion at Boomtown Casino and Resort April 10-11, 2015. The club was instrumental in bringing the World of Wheels Car Show to Shreveport in 1975; this show has also run continuously since. Monies raised from the car shows are used for local charities such as the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission to which they have donated over $15,000 and to help students, such as Quincy Cooper, to pursue their education. By helping students in the automotive, collision repair, and diesel technology fields, the association hopes to foster a renewed interest in street rodding and to help keep the passion alive for those who are already street rod enthusiasts.
