MINDEN, Louisiana, November 10,2014—Northwest Louisiana Technical College will use communications platforms as varied as Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, music festivals, high school football games, movie theaters and churches to build awareness of workforce training programs that prepare Louisiana residents for high-wage jobs in as little as sixteen weeks. The message of this first-of-its-kind social media and grassroots-outreach campaign is Be Wise. Spend Less. Earn More.
Northwest LTC will use the hashtag #BEWISELA to promote the affordability of its flexible, industry-based certification, diploma, and degree programs that equip residents with skills and training for high-demand jobs with starting wages of $15 to $16 an hour.
“We want the citizens of Northwest Louisiana to understand that our programs can quickly train them for middle-class careers to improve their lives,” said Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr., Interim Director. “The ‘Be Wise’ campaign allows us to deliver that message to an array of people across the region recognizing that our citizens receive information in a variety of ways.”
The Be Wise campaign supports the goal of Louisiana’s Community and Technical College System to triple the number of graduates in its workforce training programs over the next five years. Already, the State’s 13 two-year colleges are playing an increasingly high-profile role in preparing residents for the more than 80,000 high-wage, high-skill jobs that will be created by an anticipated $80 billion in industrial investment in Louisiana by 2020.
Northwest LTC’s Chief Workforce Development Officer, Dianne Clark, shared, “We continue to add and expand training programs in high-demand, high wage, Tier One areas. Our workforce development effort can be summarized as ‘C.H.I.M.E’ing in with a focus on career pathways in Cyber technology, Health occupations, Industrial technology, Manufacturing, and Energy services.”
